Racy and sleek. Heady and well balanced. Actually, a good mouthful of fruit and good balance. Long. 12%

Heyl zu Herrnsheim, Rothenberg Riesling Grosses Gewächs 2007 Rheinhessen 17.5 Drink 2010-16

Cask sample. Really exotic bouquet already. From 10–15-year-old vines. Explosive fruit with an edge of lime. Dry and tight (very different from, say, Gunderloch’s more opulent style). Wild ferment in old wooden casks – risk taking wine!

Heyl zu Herrnsheim, Brudersberg Riesling Grosses Gewächs 2007 Rheinhessen 18 Drink 2010-20

Cask sample. Chalky, very dry and shy. Tightly wound. Needs lots of time. Extremely dry but also clearly very fine-boned and ambitious. Should be fascinating to observe the evolution of this.
